BeachCare , QLD
Many thanks to Landcare Australia’s Grow Landcare Grants for supporting the magical day we shared along Rainbow Bay, a southern Gold Coast beach, on Saturday 27th September for the inaugural BeachCare Party.
Whales, waves and wonderful weather set the scene for dune care along Greenmount Beach, litter patrols and surfing and swimming at Snapper Rocks in between. From headland to headland, over 60 people came throughout the day, planting 200 native dune plants, removing a bag of weeds and collecting bags of bottles and other beach litter.
“It was a pleasant setting to also enjoy an afternoon tour of the beach to show off the consistent and effective efforts of Landcare volunteers from BeachCare and Friends of Rainbow Bay Society”, said Naomi Edwards from BeachCare.
“We were also grateful for the tunes by Leopold’s Treat, a local band who support Landcare groups and an international school from New Zealand to grasp how cool – Landcare is!”
The southerly cooled everyone down while they relaxed under the shade of the Pandanus trees and enjoyed a BBQ and fruit platter, what BeachCare is known for – the best watermelon! Among all, provided the best opportunity for volunteers and supporters to say ‘good-luck’ to Joel Hayes and Naomi Edwards who have been at the helm of award-winning efforts and ‘welcome’ to the new team, Tegan Croft and Maggie Muurmans.
Once again, many thanks to Landcare Australia for supporting the local grassroots of Landcare, as the smiles and stories we shared wouldn’t have happened without the support!
